Eligibility Criteria for the Contributory Parent Visa 143

The child sponsoring and the parent both have to fulfil following requirements to be eligible for a 143 visa for Australia:

• You must be sponsored by your child living in Australia.

• The child must either be permanent resident, an Australian citizen, or eligible New Zealand citizen.

• You must fit on the criteria of the balance of family test, that states that at least half of your children or more must be residents of Australia rather than being resident in any other state.

• Assurance by the child for coverage of financial needs of the parents so that they would not rely on Australian government assistance by any means.

• The parents must fulfil the health requirements set under the 143 visa. A clearance by a doctor check-up, appointed by the Australian immigration authorities is must.

• The parent must meet the requirement of good character.

• No cancelled or rejected Australian visa should be in parents’ visiting history.

• You must not hold the sponsored parent visa (subclass 870) at the time of application for visa 143.

Who Can Be a Sponsor for the 143 Visa?

The sponsor for the visa 143 Is usually a child who is 18 or above and is either an Australian citizen or permanent resident. However, in some instances, the parent may be sponsored by:

• Your child’s de facto partner or spouse who is at least 18 years old or above.

• If your child in under 18, then:

     •  Your child’s spouse who is 18 years old or above.

     • An Australian organization that must have some sort of connection or relation to your child.

     • If your child and their spouse both are under 18 then a relative or guardian of either your child or your child’s spouse who must be 18 years old or above.
